Study Abroad in South Africa

The Center for African Studies at UF offers students the opportunity to earn credits toward their degree while spending a summer abroad in South Africa. The UF in South Africa program focuses on the political economy of conservation, providing students the opportunity to:

  • Increase your knowledge of the wildlife conservation paradigms in South Africa;
  • Obtain firsthand field research experience under the guidance of experienced professionals.

This interdisciplinary course will use classroom and research experiences to focus primarily on social science approaches to the issues crucial for natural resource management and social development within or adjacent to protected areas.

  • AFS4345: Political Economy of Conservation in Africa
  • AFS4911: Undergraduate Research in African Studies 

Total Number of Credits: 4-6 UF GPA
