Program in African Languages

UF has one of the top programs in the US for studying African languages. Six languages representing all regions and major language families of Africa are offered at all levels of instruction (i.e., beginning, intermediate, advanced & superior). They include:

The Program in African Languages (PAL) is a key component of the Center for African Studies’ mission to advance Africa-related studies at the University. Collaborating with the Department of Languages, Literatures, & Cultures (LLC), CAS is dedicated to fostering a robust program in African languages for both undergraduate and graduate students.

                  

Have questions? Unsure what language to study?

PAL encourages students to study any language spoken in their country or region of interest. The program provides resources to assist in obtaining guidance on selecting a language or region. For those unsure about which language to pursue, participation in on-campus information sessions and engagement in language workshops is strongly encouraged to gain a clearer understanding of the available options.
