“Islam and Education: Nigerians in Malaysia”
African students in China or Middle East has attracted much scholarly attention. The presence of Nigerian students in Malaysia, however, is still an understudied topic. Why do Nigerians come to Malaysia seeking educational opportunities? Based on interviews with Nigerian students studying in Malaysia and graduates from Malaysian universities, this presentation tries to investigate the role of Islam in Nigerians’ choices of Malaysia as their destination of education, and the potential impact of their experiences on Islam in Nigeria.
