Non-Degree Seeking Program in African Languages

The Center for African Studies offers online language programs open to all non-degree seeking students. This includes students from private universities in Florida, out-of-state universities, high school students, and community members who are interested in earning college credit through language classes.

Online language courses are available in:
Akan I & II
Swahili I & II
Yoruba I & II

Beginning and Intermediate 1 courses are available in the fall semester and Beginning and Intermediate 2 courses are available in the spring semester.

How to Apply for the Non-Degree Seeking Language Program

Start your Application

Go to https://registrar.ufl.edu/registration/visiting-students/non-degree
Read all information before proceeding to application
Click Non-degree Application (at bottom of page)
Create an Account
Click “Start New Application”
Select an application year
Then Select “Non-Degree Application” and “Create Application”

Application Details Tab

Indicate whether you are a Dual Enrolled Student by selecting Yes or No.

Fill in Personal Background, International Information, Conduct Information, and Application Details

Non-Degree Course Request Tab

Select the following:
Non-Degree Special Program
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Choose your term
Fill in section on why you are applying for the non-degree course
Special Program: N/A

How many courses – 1

Course Prefix:
AKA – Akan
SWA-Swahili
YOR – Yoruba

Course Number:
1130 – Beginning I
1131 – Beginning II
2220 – Intermediate I
2221 – Intermediate II

Fill in Florida Residency Declaration

Complete remaining sections, sign, and submit.
Once your application has been submitted, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will review application materials and contact applicants regarding approval and class registration.
