Message from the Director

Wishing CAS friends, faculty, students and affiliates happy holidays and best wishes for the new year.

The Spring Semester schedule is already filling-up. Mark your calendars for the 2017 Carter Conference “TEXT meets IMAGE | IMAGE meets TEXT: SEQUENCES & ASSEMBLAGES OUT OF AFRICA & CONGO” scheduled for February 8-10.  Fallou Ngom, winner of the 2017 Herksovits Award, will on campus March 2. Alumna Ann Wainscott will be giving a Baraza. Urban Innovator DK Asare will CAS Scholar in Residence at the School of Architecture. The China in Africa Working Group will host a symposium and exhibit in April.

CAS will also be hosting job candidates for positions in African Politics, Medical Anthropology and African Archaeology. Stay tuned for information on job talks.

We look forward to seeing everyone for the first event of the semester when we inaugurate the Center for African Studies Historic Marker in front of Grinter Hall on Friday, January 12.

Thanks to all for your continued participation in Center activities.

Good luck to all our students completing exams this week and congratulations to our graduates!

Have a restful break.
