“The Role of Domesticated Animals in African Communities and the Lion King Movie,” by Maurine Andia Akifuma at ldylwild Elementary School, Gainesville 2/12/2021.

Andia discussed with the students about the role and importance of domesticated animals among the people of African communities specifically the Swahili – not limited to fetching water, plowing and transportation.  Andia is a Master of Development Practice Graduate Student at UF.

They learned about the names of the animals in the Lion King movies and its link to the Swahili language and many more. They further discussed briefly on the Swahili people’s way of life, their food, housing architecture, clothing, and music. The students were excited to hear “Jambo Bwana” song which they easily connected with the movie Lion King.
