Luce Workshop

The online workshop, “Remapping the Study of Islam & Muslim Cultures in Nigeria,” which Musa Ibrahim (UF) and Ben Soares (UF) have organized as part of the Islam in Africa in Global Context project funded through the Henry Luce Foundation, is next week on Friday, January 22 at 9.00 am EST.
Speakers include Adeyemi Balogun (U Bayreuth), Sara Katz (Loyola U, New Orleans), Carmen McCain (Westmont College), Musa Ibrahim (UF), Murtala Ibrahim (Utrecht University), and Kabiru H Isa (Bayero University, Kano).
Our distinguished discussants are Murray Last (University College London), Amidu Sanni (Fountain University), and Muhammad Sani Umar (Ahmadu Bello University).
The workshop concludes with a lecture in the UF Center for African Studies baraza series by Alex Thurston (U Cincinnati) entitled “Northern Nigerian Intellectuals, Sudan, and the ‘Eclectic Style’ in Contemporary Islamic Thought” at 3.30 pm EST.
