Information for UF students

AFLI summer domestic program exposes learners to the culture and traditions of a number of less commonly taught African languages both inside and outside the classroom settings. Instruction is performance-based and communicative-oriented provided by professional, native-speaking instructors. Classes will meet in-person for four hours Monday through Friday plus a mandatory 1.5-hour conversational session on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays over eight weeks. Also, students will meet with a host family for two Saturdays in order to enhance communicative interactions and cultural understanding in the target languages. The program is designed to enable learners to reach functional proficiency in two or more skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) in their language of choice. Students will earn course credits equivalent to the University of Florida’s one academic year of instruction (i.e., Beginning courses = 10 credits & Intermediate/Advanced courses = 6 credits).

Program Date: June 4-July 31, 2026

Application Deadline: May 8, 2026
