Prevention of Soccer Injuries in Rwanda.
Dr Assuman is the Deputy Dean of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Rwanda. He has worked as the physiotherapist for the Rwanda Soccer National team for the past 10 years.
He will present findings from a cluster-randomized controlled trial to determine the effect of the FIFA 11+ soccer specific warm-up programme on the incidence of injuries. The prevention initiative was found to reduce the rate of overall and lower extremity injuries. The importance of preventing moderate to severe injuries for professional soccer players in lower income countries will be discussed with recommendations for empowerment of soccer coaches to decrease risk of injury.
