Center for African Studies

The Center for African Studies will again offer a limited number of pre-dissertation research awards to UF doctoral students for summer 2024. Grants of up to $1,000 per individual from the Hunt & Jeanne Davis fund and Madelyn M. Lockhart fund will be made to support summer pre-dissertation research​. Awards are made to allow students to refine proposals and prepare the groundwork for seeking outside funding to support subsequent dissertation research. These awards are intended to complement funding from departmental, college, or personal resources. Eligible applicants should be UF doctoral students in any discipline who are at the pre-dissertation stage and intend to conduct doctoral fieldwork in Africa. The application deadline will be in February 2024 and further details specifying application procedures will be announced in January through the CAS grads listserv.
