Week of Nov 18-22, 2024 (exact date and time to be confirmed) Location: Grinter Hall Room 404
Africa’s environment, central to the lives and livelihoods of its peoples, is changing at an unprecedented pace. The continent’s water, land and air are affected by climate change, pollution and population growth in ways that threaten basic needs and livelihoods and are contributing to conflict. UF graduate students are addressing these challenges in a variety of ways and from a range of disciplines – in the sciences, humanities, social sciences and the arts.
The Center for African Studies is organizing an interdisciplinary workshop in mid-November 2024 to bring together graduate students studying any aspect of African environmental research. The workshop will provide an opportunity for students to present their research to an audience of their peers, and to consider the challenges and advantages of researching the African environment from diverse disciplinary perspectives.
The workshop will also focus on the nature of interdisciplinary research on the African environment, with contributions from UF faculty. This is the first in a planned series of interdisciplinary thematic graduate workshops organized and hosted by the Center for African Studies.
